General News

Many thanks for all of your kind donations for the orphanage in New Delhi – I am sure they will make a tremendous difference.

Abbey, who has been with us for 8 years, has recently been promoted so is sadly leaving us on 8th April. We will miss her greatly – but I am sure that you will join us in passing on our congratulations and best wishes. Keep in touch, Abbey.

Many thanks for all of the clothes and toys that parents have donated to nursery. Our spare clothes supply is no longer empty and the children love the toys.

Well what can we say about the weather – very changeable at the moment. Therefore, please can you ensure that children come to nursery with water proof coats, hat, scarf and gloves and sun cream so that they are prepared for any weather and can still enjoy the outdoors. Please can we also remind parents and carers to clearly label these with your child’s name to avoid any mix ups.

Please can we remind all parent’s/carers to clock their child(ren) in and out of the nursery so that we have accurate attendance records  - thank you for your support in this matter.

Before school and after school for children attending Hayes Meadow school is becoming very popular. If you know anyone who may be interested in this service please spread the word – thank you.

Please can we remind all parents/cares to close both gates to the nursery  both on entry and when leaving the nursery in order to maintain security of the premises, thank you.

A reminder that holiday club will run through the Easter holidays and May half term. Please see Nicole or Faye for further information or to book a space.

Stay and play sessions are becoming increasingly popular. Please speak to Nicole if you fancy coming in for an hour or two and seeing what your child gets up to.

Due to the increased numbers of children at nursery we are in the process of appointing 2 experienced nursery nurses. They will spend time in both the Caterpillar and Butterfly rooms getting to know the children and we are sure you will make them feel very welcome.
Please can we ask parents/carers to phone nursery if you are going to be late for collection of your child so that we can ensure that staff:children ratios are always maintained – thank you.

No nursery grant funding during:

Easter holidays – 14th April – 25th April

May half term – 28th May – 30th May

Dates For Your diary

1). Easter Bank holidays. Please note that nursery will be closed on:

Friday 18th April
Monday 21st April

2). May Bank holidays. Nursery will be closed on:

3). Parent’s Evening – Wednesday 7th May

This will take place from 6.15pm – 8.15 pm. We will be sending out reply slips so that you may book a time slot to see your child’s key worker. This will be an ideal time for you to view your child’s learning journey and discuss your child’s progress in the nursery.

Room News

Caterpillar Room

Caterpillars would like to say a big warm welcome to Rico and Willow who have recently joined us.  We hope you are settling in and having fun exploring the Caterpillar room. We would also like to send our best wishes to Abbey who is moving on to pastures new – we will miss you lots Abbey!

All the caterpillars love singing and doing the actions to the nursery rhyme ‘Row, row, row your boat’, so we are going to get creative  and make a lion, polar bear and a crocodile using different medias and textures. Look out for our finished display!

Easter will see the Caterpillars having lots of fun going on an Easter egg hunt, sampling Easter produce(!?!) and making little Easter surprises to bring home!?!

In May we plan to use recycled plastic bottles to create our very own Spring flowers. These will then be used to update our family tree display. If you have any spare plastic bottles we would be really grateful if you could bring them in for the Caterpillars to use – thank you. If possible could you also bring in a family photo that we can put on our Spring family tree. If you prefer you can email these photos to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Our other focus during May will be looking at baby animals born at Spring time and the sounds they make. This will be done through a variety of activities -  books and flash cards, puppets, farm animals in saw dust and songs to mention a few. We will then get creative and make our own spring animals.

If you have any activity ideas that you think your child would like or benefit from please feel free to pass these on to your child’s key worker.

Lastly some of our Children will be moving on to new adventures and graduating to the Butterfly room. We wish Jessie and Gabriel lots of love and will miss them in the Caterpillar Room.

Butterfly Room

Firstly a very big welcome to our new Butterflies - Harry, Miley and Amelia, we hope you have lots of fun during your stay with us.

The Butterflies really enjoyed their red day and I must say everyone looked fantastic dressed up in red! We hope all of our Mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day and that you liked your cards? The children worked really hard on these and enjoyed painting with their hands.

In the Butterfly room we have been focusing on learning our colours and shapes and counting up to 10. The children are all learning at a great rate and showing their newly acquired knowledge in their play.

We have also had some new resources and toys in the Butterfly room. The children are really enjoying exploring the dark den and torches and playing on the new trikes and cars. The remote control toys are also proving to be a hit!

It’s almost Easter and I think Spring is finally starting to arrive so we will be getting outside lots, exploring the changes of the season and tailoring our art work to these themes. We will also be doing lots of craft projects for Easter including decorating bonnets and eggs, there may even be a visit from the Easter Bunny!!!!

28th April is St Georges Day so we will be holding another colour themed day. If your child could wear something red or white on this day that would be fantastic.

In May we will be doing a topic on ‘ourselves’ where we will be looking at similarities and differences, height, eye colour, hair and clothes we wear. Look out for the paper plate faces that we will be making.

Finally can we remind parents/carers to bring a bag with a change of clothes in please as accidents do happen. Thank you.

Ladybird Room

We would like to welcome Ben and Lewis to the ladybirds. It’s great to see you are both settling in so well.

The Ladybirds really enjoyed the red and green days for Valentines and St Patricks Day. Thank you for your help in making the children look fantastic on these days. Hope all our Mums had a lovely Mothers Day and loved their card?

In April we will be busy celebrating Easter, decorating Easter eggs, going on an Easter egg hunt and making Easter bonnets at home. If all bonnets could be in for the week commencing Monday 14th April that would be great. We will also be holding a white and red theme day to celebrate St George’s day on the 23rd April. I’m sure there will be lots of flag making on this day too! We also intend to do a Save The Children sponsored activity – watch this space!

On 2nd May it is ‘Space Day’ where we will be making lots of rockets, playing with moon sand and singing Spaceman Sid song! If you have any materials at home that the children could use to create their space objects – toilet roll holders, silver foil or cereal boxes please bring them in and give to Faye or Hollie. On Tuesday 6thMay it is a Japanese festival that celebrates health and growth in children. We will be making carp streamers to hang outside to blow in the wind.

With the onset of Spring we will be changing our display to a Spring one. So far we have made flowers, sheep, bees and ladybirds. The ladybirds will also be busy planting and tending to new seeds/bulbs.

For literacy Ladybirds have been doing a lot of work on ‘Letters and Sounds’, and have been concentrating on covering initial sounds in words and segmenting words and blending them together. The children are all doing really well with these concepts which are having a great impact on their early literacy skills. Next we will be focusing on rhyme and rhyme strings such as Frog log mog and cat hat mat.If you would like some more information on our numeracy and literacy work please do not hesitate to ask Faye who will be only too happy to provide information so this work can be carried out at home too.
